Complex Trauma Recovery

Attachment trauma in childhood often generalizes as relational trauma in our adult lives.

Early trauma can affect how a person sees the world, how they see themselves, and the quality of their relationships.

Which includes their romantic relationships and how they feel about themselves.

Trauma is the outcome of feeling powerless and helpless in a situation where the traumatic event outweighs our natural resiliency and ability to cope.

When trauma is chronic, it typically results in symptoms of complex trauma. We may feel anger, rage, depression, anxiety, sadness, or experience intrusive memories or flashbacks. Equally common is experiencing sleep disturbances, nightmares, mood issues, avoidance behaviors, headaches, negative self-concept, affect dysregulation, and disturbances in relationships.

We may become isolated. We may not want to socialize. We may develop fears or hyper-vigilance.

And, we may feel alone and without a lifeline for support.

Many have histories of early attachment trauma that have become barriers in their ability to remain present in their relationships and to feel safe.
